| Postdoctoral positions are now available at University of
Texas Southwestern Medical Center to study biochemical
mechanisms critical to cognition, mental illness, and
neuronal injury. Applicants are expected to have a strong
background in protein biochemistry including
expression/purification of recombinant proteins from
eukaryotic and prokaryotic systems, affinity and ion
exchange chromatography.
Successful candidates will work independently on novel
synaptic intracellular signal transduction mechanisms
recently identified as a new class of targets for
therapeutic drug development. The scientist will further
characterize and validate the target mechanisms and develop
in vitro and in vivo assays for drug discovery. The
mechanisms of interest involve protein
phosphorylation/dephosphorylation, protein degradation,
trafficking, and second messenger regulation. The progress
of the project will be actively supported by our
multidisciplinary team including pharmacologists,
neurophysiologists, cellular and molecular neuroscientists,
neuropathologists, and animal behavioralists. For a
